However, handling even the simplest of power tools could be hazardous and can result in severe injuries when used incorrectly. Special attention towards power tools safety is necessary to reduce or eliminate these hazards.
When using power tools, you must use guards and safety switches. Using power tools improperly can be very dangerous. Workers handling power tools may be exposed to hazards such as:
• Falling or flying of abrasive objects
• Harmful dust, fumes, mist, vapors and gases
• Electric shocks due to frayed or damaged electrical cords, hazardous connections and improper grounding

• Use the right tool for the job
• Insect your power tools before using them
• Operate according to manufacturers’ instructions
• Use proper personal protective equipment while handling power tools
• Use guards

• Don’t hold the switch button while carrying a plugged-in tool
• Keep tools sharp and clean
• Remove damaged cords and tag them “Do not use!”
• Do not carry electrical power tools by the cords

• Don’t yank cord to disconnect it
• Keep cords away from heat, oil and sharp edges
